New Farmhouse Style Residence in Wesley Hills, New York

A New House over Existing Foundations & The Magic of Working with Creative Home Owners

Our design task was to create a farm-style house on existing foundations, incorporating minimal horizontal additions to keep the variance request reasonable and likely to be accepted.

We approached the project by treating the two volumes of the house as distinct parts of a traditional farmhouse-like structure, with the 'original' section made of stone and the 'later addition' constructed of wood. This concept informed our design detailing, resulting in features such as stone lintels and window sills, a natural wood entrance door, and a vertical porch sconce lighting reminiscent of old-world torch and candle lamps.

The owners played a significant role in the material selection, diverging from our default modern choices of gray stone, white clapboard siding, and black roofing. Instead, they opted for warm, natural colors throughout the design, including stained wood, copper metal roofing, green siding, and touches of brown in the stone walls.

This project demonstrates the power of collaboration in design, blending our architectural expertise with the client's vision to create a distinctive farmhouse that harmonizes with its surroundings and fulfills the owner's dreams. We welcome you to start a conversation with us and embark on a journey to uncover yet another new design.
