An Addition to a Split-Level House in Pomona NY with a New Dress over the Entire House Rejuvenating these Old Bones with New Life
In Pomona, NY, we embarked on a remarkable project that transformed a split-level house by adding a horizontal extension towards the backyard. This addition not only expanded the living/dining space but also rejuvenated the house’s exterior with a contemporary and modern aesthetic. We chose black standing seam metal panels to clad the entire house, providing a sleek, sophisticated look that contrasts beautifully with the natural surroundings.

Cross-Gable made of Custom Heavy Timber Posts, Rafters and Infill Wood Panels
A standout feature of this addition is the decorative cross gable element we created, facing the rear yard. This architectural detail frames the large glazed areas of the living room and the basement playroom below, offering expansive views and abundant natural light. The cross gable is meticulously framed with custom heavy timber posts and rafters, adding a touch of rustic charm to the modern design. The gable mullions, crafted from 2-2x6s, contribute to the structural integrity and visual appeal of the gable.
The horizontal spaces between the two floors and above the main floor windows within the gable-framed projection are clad with infill wood panels, forming a functional and stylish rainscreen. This combination of materials – the cold, industrial feel of the black metal cladding juxtaposed with the warm, inviting wood-framed and paneled elements – creates a striking balance that has transformed the house into a visually stunning and inviting home. The interplay of these contrasting materials has truly worked its magic, making the house a standout in the neighborhood.
